Ross Joinery Kitchens in the 1960s

Rosario Cali started his Apprenticeship in Innisfail in 1936 and finished his Trade during the Era of the Second World War in 1941. After only a few years in 1947 Ross started his first business called Mourilyan Joinery at the small town of Mourilyan south of Innisfail. The company at this time specialised in the making of Timber Windows and Doors. Ross started the company with only himself and his father as a Labourer. The business flourished and by 1960 had grown to a staff of eight.

In 1961 Ross won a large contract for the supply of joinery for 500 homes in Q.H.C development in Townsville. It was at this time in his career he decided to move his business to Townsville.

In late 1962 Ross opened Townsville Joinery Works at the Bohle. At this time the company had also diversified into kitchen construction and quickly grew to a staff of twenty situated in one joinery factory and one kitchen factory. In 1967 Ross’s son, Peter Cali, commenced his apprenticeship at this company.

Ross Joinery Kitchens in the 1970s

In 1971 Ross sold his Townsville Joinery Works due to an extreme downturn in the building industry. After being his own boss for so long Ross decided that he could no longer work under the direction of someone else, and decided upon a new venture.

In 1972 Ross opened the present Ross Joinery Pty Ltd which was situated at Dalrymple Road, Garbutt. The new company once again specialised in Timber Joinery and Kitchen Manufacture. Ross’s son Peter joined the company on completion of his apprenticeship at Townsville Joinery Works.

Ross Joinery Kitchens moved to its present premises in 1978 situated at 449 Bayswater Road, Mt. Louisa. In this shift a post-form laminating section was added to the business.
