How do I maintain and clean my cabinets to keep them looking new?
Maintenance depends on the cabinet finish, but general care includes:
- Wipe surfaces regularly with a damp, soft cloth and mild soap if needed.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners or pads that can damage finishes.
- Dry spills promptly to prevent water damage or warping.
- Check hinges and handles every so often and tighten if needed.
- For timber cabinets, consider periodic oiling or polishing to maintain the wood’s natural look.
Proper care ensures your cabinets stay functional and attractive for years to come.
What’s the difference between a cabinet maker and a carpenter?
While both work with timber, a cabinet maker specialises in fine joinery and precision-built cabinetry, often crafted in a workshop. Carpenters typically focus on structural timber work on-site, such as framing, flooring and roofing.
Cabinet makers use specialised tools and techniques to deliver detailed, finished products like kitchen cabinets, entertainment units or vanities—designed for interiors and built with aesthetics and functionality in mind.
How do I start planning a kitchen renovation?
Start by thinking about how you use your kitchen day-to-day. Consider layout, storage, traffic flow and any pain points in the current design. Then speak with a cabinet maker or designer who can help translate those ideas into a practical plan.
It helps to gather images or examples you like to guide the style. A good consultation will factor in your needs, space and budget before moving to design and quote.
How long can it take to install a kitchen?
Installation times can vary depending on the scope of the job and materials selected. For example, if a job has laminated benchtops, the job may be completed within 1-2 days.
A job that has stone benchtops and glass splashbacks can add a few weeks turn around as those items need to be measured and manufactured after the kitchen has been installed. We will discuss with you the different time frame lengths that relate to your unique job based off your final selections.
Do I need to organise other trades?
We are able to arrange all the trades required to ensure your renovation can be completed from start to finish, ranging from the plumbing, gas, gyprock cornice, electrical work, tiling and much more. If you already have a subcontractor you like to work with, we are happy to work around them as well.
What’s the difference between built-in and walk-in wardrobes?
A built-in wardrobe is fixed into the wall of a room, often with sliding or hinged doors, and is ideal for maximising space in bedrooms or hallways. A walk-in wardrobe is a dedicated room or space you walk into, usually offering more extensive storage.
Built-ins are a great choice for standard rooms or where space is limited, and they can be tailored to suit your exact storage requirements.
Do built-in wardrobes increase property value?
Yes, quality built-in wardrobes can add value to your home. Buyers appreciate well-designed storage, especially in bedrooms or small spaces.
A professionally built wardrobe helps create a sense of order and can make a room feel more finished and functional. While not a major structural upgrade, custom joinery can improve everyday usability and contribute to the overall appeal of a property.
How do I customise the interior of a built-in wardrobe?
The interior of a built-in wardrobe can be fully customised with a mix of shelving, hanging rails, drawers, shoe racks, compartments and accessories. A good cabinet maker will assess your storage habits and available space to recommend a layout that works.
You can also choose finishes and hardware to suit your room's style. The goal is to create a design that fits both your belongings and your lifestyle.
What’s the best material for a bathroom vanity?
The best material for a bathroom vanity is one that resists moisture and is easy to clean. Laminates, engineered stone and moisture-resistant boards are commonly used for cabinetry, while benchtops might feature stone, solid surface or laminate.
Each offers different benefits in terms of durability, style and cost. It’s important to choose materials based on how often the space is used and the type of environment, especially in humid areas.
Do I need a custom vanity or a pre-made one?
Pre-made vanities are quick to install and often budget-friendly, but they may not make the best use of space or match your preferred style. A custom vanity is built specifically for your bathroom, offering more flexibility in size, configuration, and finish.
If you have an unusual layout, specific storage needs, or a strong design preference, custom is often the better long-term solution.
Can I add a double sink to my vanity?
Yes, double-sink vanities are a great choice for shared bathrooms. You’ll need enough space to accommodate both basins comfortably, along with plumbing that can support a second outlet.
Custom vanities make this easier by allowing for exact measurements, layout planning and tailored storage beneath each basin. Double-sink designs can improve daily routines and reduce bottlenecks during busy mornings.
What’s the benefit of laundry cabinetry?
Quality laundry cabinetry makes the most of your available space, especially in tight or awkward layouts. It allows you to include only what you need—like overhead storage, pull-out baskets or broom cupboards—while fitting around your appliances.
The result is a more efficient, tidy and user-friendly laundry space that complements the rest of your home.
Which materials are best for laundry cabinetry?
Laundry areas are prone to moisture, so materials need to be durable and water-resistant. Laminated boards, moisture-resistant MDF and sealed finishes are commonly used for cabinets and shelving.
Benchtops may be laminated or stone, depending on preference and budget. Choosing the right materials helps ensure the cabinetry holds up to regular use and stays looking good over time.
Can laundry cabinetry be installed in small spaces?
Yes, compact laundries benefit the most from quality cabinetry. Clever design can incorporate storage into tight corners, vertical space or above appliances.
Even a narrow hallway or combined bathroom-laundry can be fitted out efficiently. The key is designing around your routine and making sure every cabinet and surface serves a purpose.
What should I consider when designing a home office?
Start with how you work. Consider whether you need built-in storage, desk space for multiple monitors, or integrated shelving. Lighting, cable management and comfort should also factor into the design.
A well-planned office should be both functional and pleasant to spend time in. Custom joinery helps create a workspace that suits your daily routine, available space and work style.
How do custom entertainment units differ from store-bought ones?
Custom entertainment units are built to fit your exact room dimensions and media setup. Unlike pre-made options, they can be tailored around your TV size, speakers, storage needs and preferred finish.
This allows for seamless integration with your living area and better use of wall or floor space. Custom designs also let you conceal cables and clutter while creating a more polished, permanent look.
Can a home office be added to a shared space?
Absolutely. Many home offices are built into living areas, spare bedrooms or even hallway recesses. The key is designing cabinetry that blends in when not in use and offers enough function during work hours.
Custom joinery allows you to make the most of tight or multi-use areas by incorporating foldaway desks, floating shelves or built-in drawers—all designed around your specific setup.
Do you offer supply only flatpack/assembled options?
Yes, we are quite happy to supply you with the cabinetry and materials for you to do the installation yourself. This can be in the form of flatpacks for you to build the cupboards yourself, or as already assembled modules ready to go to site for install.
It is highly recommended to have some experience with installations as we make everything custom and there will still need to be on site leveling, scribing and cutting to be done during the installation process.
What is flat-pack cabinetry?
Flat-pack cabinetry refers to pre-cut cabinets that are packaged unassembled for transport and installation. The panels are labelled and designed to be put together on-site, often with standard tools.
It’s a convenient option for people wanting to save on installation costs or manage timelines independently. Flat-pack is commonly used in kitchens, laundries, home offices or anywhere that modular, efficient cabinetry is needed.
Is flat-pack cabinetry durable?
Yes. Flat-pack cabinetry is manufactured from durable, high-grade materials that meet the demands of modern kitchens. With proper assembly, these units provide structural strength, reliable performance, and a professional finish.
This makes flat-packs a smart, long-term solution for homeowners seeking quality, convenience, and value in their cabinetry.
Can I install flat-pack cabinetry myself?
Many flat-pack systems are designed for DIY installation, especially if you're confident using basic tools. Clear instructions and pre-drilled panels make the process manageable for most handy homeowners.
That said, if you're dealing with plumbing, electrical components or want a flawless finish, hiring a professional installer or builder can be a good investment to ensure everything fits and functions properly.
Are laminate benchtops durable?
Yes, laminate benchtops are built to withstand everyday wear. Modern laminates are manufactured with tough outer layers that resist scratches, stains and moisture.
While they’re not as heat-resistant as stone, they hold up well under typical kitchen and laundry use. With proper care and cleaning, a laminate benchtop can offer excellent longevity at a more affordable price point than stone or solid surface options.
Can laminate be used in wet areas like laundries?
Absolutely. Laminate is a practical choice for wet areas such as laundries and bathrooms, as long as edges are properly sealed and water isn’t allowed to pool for long periods.
The surface itself is moisture-resistant and easy to clean, making it ideal for busy utility spaces. Custom-built laminate benchtops can also be designed to include splashbacks or wall returns for added protection.
How do I maintain a laminate benchtop?
Maintaining a laminate benchtop is simple. Wipe surfaces regularly with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scourers, as they can damage the finish.
Always use cutting boards and heat pads to protect the surface from sharp knives or hot cookware. With basic care, laminate benchtops will stay looking clean and fresh for many years, making them a low-fuss option for busy homes.
What’s the difference between natural and engineered stone?
Natural stone, such as granite or marble, is quarried directly from the earth and features unique patterns and colour variations. Engineered stone is man-made using a blend of crushed stone and resin, offering consistent colours and added strength.
Both are highly durable, but engineered stone tends to be more uniform and may require less maintenance over time. Your choice will depend on the look, performance and budget you’re working with.
Do stone benchtops require sealing?
Natural stone surfaces—such as granite and marble—generally require sealing to protect against staining and moisture. Engineered stone, on the other hand, is non-porous and typically does not require sealing.
Sealing is a simple process and only needs to be done occasionally. Proper maintenance helps preserve the appearance and longevity of the benchtop, especially in high-use areas like kitchens or laundries.
Can stone be used outside the kitchen?
Absolutely. Stone benchtops can be used in many parts of the home, including laundries, bathrooms, home offices and even outdoor kitchens (if suited to the climate).
The key is choosing the right type of stone and finish for the space and its purpose. Engineered stone is often used indoors, while certain natural stones may be better suited to outdoor use with appropriate treatment and care.
